The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has appointed Eliza Gaines executive editor, becoming the first woman to lead the newspaper.
Previously, she served as managing editor.
Earlier, she served as an assistant to the travel editor, copy writer, reporter on the food and travel sections, and as an assistant publisher at the paper. She also held the post of vice president of audience development at WEHCO Media Inc. in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was also executive editor of The Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs, Arizona, and was an intern and staff writer, working in the travel section at the San Francisco Chronicle.
Gaines has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. from the UNC-Chapel Hill Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
