AP wins Overseas Press Club award for business reporting

The Associated Press team that uncovered slaves being used to catch fish sold in U.S. grocery stores and restaurants has won the Overseas Press Club award for business journalism.

The Malcolm Forbes Award honors the best international business news reporting in newspapers, news services or online. Martha Mendoza, Margie Mason, Robin McDowell and Esther Htusan from the AP also won the Hal Boyle Award for best newspaper, news service or online reporting from abroad for “Seafood from Slaves.”

The same AP team won a Pulitzer Prize for their story earlier this month.

Last year’s winner was Stephen Grey and a team at Reuters, who won for “Comrade Capitalism,” which examined how Russia does business in the Putin era.

Erika Solomon, Sam Jones, Ahmad Mhidi and Guy Chazan of the Financial Times won the best investigative reporting award for “Isis Inc.”

Reuters was recognized in categories celebrating international affairs reporting, human rights reporting and courage in photographic reporting.

The awards dinner will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York.
