AP biz desk names team leader for breaking news

Associated Press business editor Lisa Gibbs sent out the following announcement on Thursday afternoon:

Michael Lee will be the new Team Leader for our Breaking News desk, effective immediately.

From his perch in Detroit, Mike will take on the vital role of managing the ongoing evolution of our spot desk to focus on being first on the day’s most important business news.

Over several years as our lead morning assignment editor, Mike has long proven himself a critical first-responder on breaking news and has a keen eye for opportunities to elevate routine coverage. Now as team leader, he also will help our desk become more mobile-friendly and improve use of social/UGC, as well as extend the efficiencies gained from automation.

Mike came to the AP in 2007 from Crain’s Detroit Business, where he was deputy managing editor and general manager of its website.

Big congratulations to Mike!!!!
