The Richmond Times-Dispatch, a Media General newspaper, became the latest metropolitan newspaper to drop publishing daily stock listings. The change will take place on July 15.
Other metro newspapers to announce this year that they were dropping stock listings include The (Raleigh) News & Observer, Atlanta Constitution, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsday and Boston Globe.
In an interesting twist, however, the Times-Dispatch said that it will offer a weekly markets review section available to subscribers.
The newspaper stated in Tuesday’s newspaper, “In keeping with our commitment to provide local information relevant to your daily life, we will continue to print local and regional market information each day in the Business section. It will offer highlights and summaries of national market activity, with an emphasis on the companies that operate here and in the state.
“This overview will be available only in The Times-Dispatch. In addition, we will offer more features on local businesspeople and additional personal-finance news to help you make decisions about your money.
“This decision is the result of more readers using online services for market information. The new Markets Review section allows us to provide customized information to those who want it.”
