Emily Nelson, U.S. coverage chief at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement:
I am thrilled to announce that Mike Amon is named Law Bureau Chief.
Mike brings the ability to chart dominating coverage and develop high-impact stories to the U.S. news leadership team. He takes on the leadership of a talented group of reporters who cover some of the most divisive topics facing the country right now. Coverage of the legal system and all the issues it shapes is at the heart of some of our biggest stories.
Mike returns to New York from Dubai where as deputy bureau chief for the Middle East and North Africa, he led coverage of business and economic issues, writing and editing stories about the social and financial upheaval in Saudi Arabia and the effect of U.S. sanctions on the Iranian economy and culture.
Mike joined the Journal in 2011 as deputy bureau chief of Greater New York where he stood out for his smart and thoughtful leadership during natural disasters and other large, fast-moving stories. He moved to London in 2015 to lead the energy team. He has also worked at the Washington Post and Newsday.
He is a graduate of New York University, a Mets fan and a native of Yankton, S.D.
Please join me in congratulating Mike on his new role.
