American Lawyer editor in chief Kim Kleman sent out the following to the staff on Monday:
To ALM staff,
Please join me in congratulating two editorial staffers who are taking on significant new roles at The American Lawyer. David Bario is the new executive editor of The Am Law Daily and our website and Jenna Greene will become the new editor and columnist for Litigation Daily.
In his new position, David will work with his team to make The Am Law Daily not only the best source of news about the business of law, but also the top provider of insightful, web-friendly analysis and interactivity, fun features, astute columns and more. He joins the wildly talented Am Law Daily staff of deputy editor Brian Baxter and reporters Scott Flaherty, Jennifer Henderson and Nell Gluckman. (Of course, the extended Am Law Daily team includes every reporter and editor at TAL.) Just my prediction, but this crew will cause registrations to go through the roof! Traffic’s going to break all kinds of records! (No pressure, folks.)
For the past four years David has been Lit Daily’s senior editor and also a regular writer, keeping it a must-read for elite litigation junkies. He was an early contributor to that premium digital newsletter and website and became the publication’s lead writer in 2010. He has also helped to spearhead Litigation Department of the Year and other projects. David joined The American Lawyer as a staff reporter eight years ago, after stints investigating N.Y. judges and covering U.S. politics and the United Nations. The executive editor job was previously held by Pia Sarkar, who left ALM last month for the Associated Press.
Jenna, an 18-year veteran of the National Law Journal/ALM, will bring to Litigation Daily her eye for stories, keen reporting, beautiful writing and a new approach, turning it into more of a signature column. Consider her a one-woman brand; everyone will want to read Jenna Greene’s take on the latest news and developments in litigation.
She has ably served ALM in many roles, including freelancer, reporter, news editor, special reports editor and senior reporter at NLJ. Her honors include several Neal Awards and the top honor in 2012 from the American Society Business Publication Editors for her article on victims of radioactive contamination in Hanford, Wash. Beth Frerking, editor-in-chief of the NLJ, calls Jenna a newsroom mentor and model. I can’t wait until she joins our team.
That will happen the week of July 20, after Jenna and her family move to Northern California. Until that time, David will be straddling both worlds. Special thanks to senior writer Susan Beck and Brian Baxter for their big assists during this time of transition.
Onward and upward!
