American Banker hires Prior from Dallas Biz Journal

Jon Prior

Jon Prior, who has been working at the Dallas Business Journal since 2016, has been hired by American Banker.

Prior will remain based in Dallas. He started at American Banker on Monday.

Prior has been covering private equity, commercial banking, hedge funds, family offices and mergers and acquisitions.

He joined the Business Journal from Politico. While in D.C., he has covered consumer banking policy, regulatory topics, monetary policy and housing finance.

Before that, he was with HousingWire as a senior reporter, where he tackled the mortgage industry’s recovery in the wake of the financial crisis.

A 2009 graduate of UNT’s Mayborn School of Journalism, Prior has won multiple awards in his career, including from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (Best Explanatory Feature, 2012) and the National Association of Real Estate Editors (Feature writing, 2011).

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
