ALM names Bauer its Texas bureau chief

ALM, which operates business of law publications around the country, has named Mark Bauer as its Texas bureau chief, overseeing Texas Lawyer.

Bauer succeeds Heather Nevitt, who, after six years as editor in chief of Texas Lawyer, is taking on a broader role within ALM’s coverage of the in-house legal community.

Bauer has more than seven years of editing and production experience. As managing editor of National Law Journal and Texas Lawyer, he was responsible for facilitating the production of the monthly magazines, curating newsletter lineups, and soliciting contributed columns from members of the legal community in Washington, D.C. and in Texas.

He also interviewed authors for Q&As in the “Newsmakers” column of the National Law Journal.

Previously, he worked as a digital editor at ACTIVE.com, where he grew the endurance audience and used content to expand business opportunities. Before that, he worked as an associate editor for Texas Lawyer, where he helped facilitate the production flow and oversaw its social media strategy.

“Texas is home for me, and I have several friends in the legal community here,” Bauer said. “Texas is a big, unique state that will continue to be important economically and politically in the future, so I’m looking forward to playing a bigger role in shaping our coverage of the good work being done by lawyers here.”

In addition to her roles as editor in chief of Corporate Counsel and Inside Counsel, Nevitt is overseeing editorial direction of ALM’s Global Leaders in Law, a membership community of global general counsel.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
