Alabama biz reporter Poe joins Charleston paper

Kelly Poe

Kelly Poe, a business reporter at the Birmingham News, has been hired by the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier.

At the South Carolina paper, Poe is a newsletter producer. On LinkedIn, she writes that she is “completely changing and relaunching the way the South’s oldest daily newspaper interacts with their readers in their inboxes.”

Poe was a business reporter for the Alabama paper for slightly more than three years. Before that, she spent 16 months at the Greensboro News & Record, covering Guilford County government, development and business.

She is a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate. Before graduating, she completed internships at The News & Observer in Raleigh, The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, The Herald-Sun in Durham and The StarNews in Wilmington. She also wrote for Carolina’s independent student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
