Al Jazeera Americas hires three new biz correspondents

Al Jazeera America announced Monday that veteran financial journalists Patricia Sabga, Duarte Geraldino and Stacey Tisdale will join the channel’s primetime business program “Real Money with Ali Velshi. ”

The business correspondents will also provide live business news coverage throughout the day.

“I’m thrilled to be working with these three experienced journalists who will help me connect the economy to the daily lives of Americans,” said Velshi in a statement. “We’ve seen in recent years how decisions in Washington and actions on Wall Street affect us all. Real Money with Ali Velshi will break down the top financial stories so that viewers will better understand the economic implications of the day’s top stories.”

Sabga will focus on complex economic stories and how they affect Americans. She previously served as the senior business editor and chief business news anchor for CNN Headline News where she reported live from the New York Stock Exchange. She was a senior editor and anchor with CNN Financial News and worked as a correspondent for the award-winning magazine show CNN & Fortune. Sagba worked as a correspondent for CNN and a foreign correspondent for NBC News reporting from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the West Bank.

Geraldino, a former Wall Street corporate finance analyst and veteran journalist, will cover money stories for Al Jazeera America. He has covered significant financial stories of the past decade, including the U.S. payroll tax cut and the banking crisis, and has contributed reports to Bloomberg TV, the CBS Affiliate News Service and guest anchored for CBS Morning News.

He also guest hosted several episodes of American Public Media Marketplace Morning Report, which is broadcast by more than 500 public radio stations nationwide. His work has been seen across U.S. broadcast networks and outlets including ABC News, BET and CW stations.

Tisdale has reported on business and financial issues for more than 15 years, and will help Al Jazeera America viewers navigate personal finance issues. Prior to Al Jazeera America, she served as the financial correspondent for PBS’ Need to Know.

She also has been a financial expert on NBC’s Today Show and the financial contributor for Arise TV. Tisdale filed business and consumer reports for all of the CNN channels and reported for Inside Africa on CNN International. Tisdale contributed reports to Money Talks and served as a business correspondent for CBS News, CBS MarketWatch, The Early Show, CBS Evening News and CBS Radio. She held various positions at Dow Jones & Co., including host for Wall Street Journal Television, which eventually became CNBC.
