Akron woman launches biz mag for black female entrepreneurs

Da’Shika Wells of Akron, Ohio, has launched a business magazine aimed at black female entrepreneurs, writes Judy Stringer of Crain’s Chicago Business.

Stringer writes, “Late last month, Wells published the first issue of Official B.A.B.E Magazine. B.A.B.E stands for Black and Brilliant Entrepreneur. The quarterly publication, exclusively digital for now, features articles and advice from a collection of 14 contributors across the country. The content is meant to inspire and empower African-American women with a business idea or while starting or building an organization.

“‘For myself and a lot of the African-American women that I am associated with either personally or professionally, we didn’t have a lot of those resources or experiences that maybe people in other demographics did,’ Wells explained, ‘such as having conversations at the dinner table about the day at the office and Dad ran the office, or watching or hearing about filing a business’ taxes or investing.

“‘I want to shed some light on those experiences that are disparate in our personal community and in our professional community.'”
