Akers named editor of Memphis Business Journal

Greg Akers, who has been managing editor of the Memphis Business Journal since August 2014, has been promoted to editor in chief of the American City Business Journals paper.

A story on its website states, “Prior to joining MBJ, Akers held leadership roles with Contemporary Media Inc., including as the former editor of Inside Memphis Business and Collierville and Germantown magazines; film and TV editor at the Memphis Flyer; and contributing editor of Memphis magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis and has taught as an adjunct instructor in the school’s Department of Journalism. For more background on Akers, click here.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
