Adweek ME leaves for Yahoo on same day as editorial director Wolff departs

Adweek managing editor Hillary Frey is leaving the trade publication for a job at Yahoo News, reports Dylan Stableford of Yahoo News.

Stableford writes, “Frey, who helped relaunch Adweek last fall with Wolff, will become a managing editor of Yahoo News, with an emphasis on building Yahoo’s growing East Coast news operation and its original reporting sites.

“‘I’m thrilled to be part of Yahoo’s efforts to bring more original reporting to its massive audience,’ Frey told The Cutline. ‘And to help the current, talented Yahoo News staff develop a voice for the brand as we move into the election cycle.’

“‘We are committed to making Yahoo News the undisputed premier news destination online,’ said Will Tacy, who was recently promoted to executive editor of Yahoo News. ‘Hillary’s arrival is a vital element of delivering on that promise to our audience.’

“Before joining Adweek last fall, Frey was the media and style editor at Politico; before that, she served as both culture editor and media editor of the New York Observer, a books editor at Salon and The Nation, and managing editor of Lingua Franca, the lauded 1990s magazine that covered academic life. Her husband, Mark Lotto, is a senior editor at GQ.”
