ACBJ to start coverage in Chicago

The Charlotte-based company, which operates 40 weekly business newspapers across the country, does not operate the business weekly in Chicago. That is operated by Crain’s.

Lynn Marek of Crain’s Chicago Business reports, “The nationwide newspaper chain, which publishes its business weeklies in 40 cities, including Atlanta and Dallas, is adding web-only coverage in Chicago and New York to supplement its online coverage in Los Angeles. With a presence in the nation’s three biggest markets plus its weekly print publications elsewhere, it’ll be easier for the company to attract national advertising.”Mr. Lazare starts his new job on Sept. 6 and expects to focus on Chicago’s marketing and advertising industries, though he also hopes to branch out into coverage of other business areas where he has experience, including airlines, arts and media, he said in an interview.”‘I’m looking for stuff that makes a newsy fun read that’s informative and involves breaking news,’ Mr. Lazare said. ‘You just sort of have to pick and chose.’

“Charlotte, N.C.-based American City Business Journals is owned by privately held Advance Publications Inc., which is led by S.I. Newhouse Jr., and also owns magazine publisher Conde Nast.”
