ACBJ names chief content officer

Emory Thomas Jr., the publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal, has been named the chief content officer of its parent company, American City Business Journals.

A story on the paper’s website states, “In this newly created position, Thomas will oversee all print, online and digital editorial activities for American City’s 40 city business publications nationwide.

“‘Emory’s background as a business journal reporter, editor and publisher makes him uniquely qualified for this senior-most editorial position in our company,’ Shaw said in a note to employees. Shaw said the search to find Thomas’ successor as publisher in Seattle will begin right away. Until that person is named, Thomas will continue as publisher of the Business Journal while transitioning to the new national role.

“‘I’m thrilled with the opportunity to lead the evolution of this influential company’s content at a critical and fascinating juncture,’ Thomas said. ‘It has been a true personal privilege and pleasure to serve as publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal, and I’m confident I can continue to impact the quality of what we do here in my new position.’

“In his new role, Thomas ultimately will relocate to American City’s headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. In addition to the 40 business journals it produces, American City also owns sports titles such as Sporting News, Sports Business Journal and Hemmings Motor News. American City is owned, in turn, by Advance Publications, the New York-based owner of such publications as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and The Oregonian newspaper.”
