Bloomberg News is a news junkie’s paradise

Alina Dizik of the BBC visited Bloomberg‘s headquarters on Lexington Avenue in New York and examined how its employees work.

Dizik writes, “There are no private offices; even meeting rooms are enclosed by glass. Reporters, editors, market data specialists and executives all rub elbows at desks arranged like a trading floor. This design helps them share information and ideas — and fosters ‘healthy competition.’ Productivity is a must.

“From the ground, elevators funnel 1,000s of employees to the 6th floor, where they scatter to more than 30 other floors. On their journey, they pass tanks filled with colourful tropical fish, tables of free food and reams of news tickers.”

  • I assure you, as a news junkie, that Bloomberg is nothing remotely resembling a news junkie's paradise. Having worked there for three years, I just can't imagine why anyone would even argue that it is. It's a place of giving and receiving orders, above all.
