A long way from Irving's bow tie

The Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rosenthal takes a look Friday at the evolution of business journalism on television as Fox Business Network gets ready to launch on Monday.

Rosenthal wrote, “Alexis Glick, the former Wall Street analyst and one-time backup ‘Today’ co-host who is Fox Business Network’s director of business news, said there’s a difference ‘between educating the audience and telling the audience,’ and that ‘part of what we will do on this journey together is we’ll interpret pieces of news’ from a business standpoint, whether it’s a traditional business story or not.

“‘There’s no reason business news can’t be fun and energetic and exciting,’ she said. ‘Why can’t it be entertaining?’

“If Ailes’ history with Fox News Channel is an indication, Fox Business Network will use programs and personalities to lure viewers rather than rely on news developments to drive growth.

“Cavuto said he’s not all that interested in every tick of the Dow Jones average.”
