Bloomberg hires Recode’s Wagner to cover tech

Kurt Wagner

Bloomberg News tech editor Jillian Ward sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Dear colleagues,

I’m very excited to announce that veteran social media reporter Kurt Wagner will be joining Bloomberg’s Technology Team in San Francisco starting next week.

Kurt comes to us after almost five years at Recode, most recently as senior editor covering Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and other big tech companies, breaking news on executive shuffles at Facebook, Jack Dorsey’s revival at Twitter, and turmoil at HQ Trivia. He originally hails from Kenmore, Washington, and has been in the Bay Area since moving here to attend Santa Clara University (though he remains a loyal and enthusiastic fan of Seattle’s sports teams). He’s an avid hiker, and in recent years has taken the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Kurt previously covered technology and business at Mashable and Fortune. He’ll be a welcome addition to our social-media reporting pod as we continue to tackle this rich, complex and evolving story from every angle. Kurt steps into an opening being left by Selina Wang, who is moving into a new role as a Bloomberg Television anchor in Beijing. Please join me in welcoming Kurt to Bloomberg News and the tech team.
