Simon Webb, global trade editor at Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Friday:
I am delighted to announce that Ayenat Mersie Ejigu has joined Reuters in New York as Commodities Correspondent. She will report on soft commodities – sugar, coffee and cocoa – as those markets undergo profound changes to meet evolving consumer preferences. Ayenat has worked on the team NY C&E team since February, when she came onboard as a National Association of Black Journalists fellow.
She has covered oil markets, producer hedging, soft commodities and biofuels over the past eight months, and also worked on several data projects. Ayenat graduated this year with a dual masters in journalism and international relations from NYU and wrote her thesis on the democratic transition in The Gambia. Before that, she was in Kenya, where she was the first employee and eventual head of content at Gro Intelligence, an agricultural data startup. She’s an Ethiopian-American, and loves coffee, photography, and trivia.
Ayenat started as a full-time staff member this week.
Please join me in congratulating Ayenat!
Best regards,
