Bloomberg L.P. announced Fruday that Clark Hoyt, previously special adviser to the CEO, editor-at-large at Bloomberg News and a former public editor of The New York Times, has been appointed to the new position of independent senior editor.
Bloomberf also announced that Tim Quinson, executive editor for Bloomberg News in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has been appointed as standards editor.
Hoyt will report to Norman Pearlstine, chief content officer, who reports to CEO and President Daniel L. Doctoroff, and Quinson will report to Bloomberg News editor-in-chief Matthew Winkler.
Between May and August of this year, Hoyt led an internal review of the relationship between Bloomberg’s news and commercial operations. The company released Hoyt’s findings and recommendations in August, and has begun to implement them. Among other actions, he recommended the creation of an independent senior editor to provide an alternative and independent channel to receive and look into complaints regarding news coverage, and the creation of a newsroom standards editor to enforce standards for accuracy, fairness, balance and tone in headlines and news stories.
“These appointments continue our commitment to listen and respond quickly and respectfully to our clients, while upholding the high standards, editorial independence and integrity of Bloomberg News,” said Doctoroff in a statement. “Clark has already spent significant time listening to our clients and understanding our news coverage, which in addition to his background as New York Times public editor makes him the perfect candidate for independent senior editor.”
