Jim Pensiero, editor of talent at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following staff announcement on Monday:
I’m pleased to announce that Christine Glancey will be the Journal’s editor, training — a new position in our organization — effective June 1.
In this role, Christine will be responsible for the creation and implementation of global training across the integrated WSJ newsroom. This new program will tackle a wide range of areas, including a revived and highly practical orientation program, continuing education in new platforms and technologies, and specialized training in core topics. She will coordinate with top editors to assess our needs and create a robust curriculum, relying heavily on our best editors and reporters to share their knowledge to advance our journalism and serve our readers. She’ll work closely with the News Standards and Ethics group on training in that area, and with the talented Meredith Lubitz and Nancy Morse from Dow Jones HR to ensure that our staffers are offered the rich mix of technology, management and career-development training available there. Christine also will be running the DJ@DJ program along with our HR colleagues. She will report to me.
Christine is a 25-year WSJ veteran, having joined the Journal in 1988 on the Monitor Desk. She has worked her way up the organization, taking leadership roles as the Journal’s Deputy National Editor and Global Copy Desk Chief and was managing editor of the WSJ Asia in Hong Kong. She joined WSJ.com in 2009, and she led news and integration efforts as the site’s deputy managing editor.
A relentless advocate for change and improvement in the newsroom, Christine’s leadership of the U.S.-based WSJ.com homepage team has ensured that our best journalism reaches online readers quickly and effectively. She has shepherded daily coverage working with groups and departments that span the whole Journal—the news and feature desks, newswires, international bureaus, video, blogs, data analytics, mobile, social media, and infographic teams.
Christine combines the core DNA of our organization — accuracy, speed, fairness and depth — with an understanding of how to make new media and practices work for our readers. Her new assignment allows of us to gain from this knowledge and to pursue our goal of continuous improvement of our skills and practices.
