CNBC's global show

The Independent, the British newspaper, has a nice analysis piece in this morning’s paper about how business news cable channel CNBC is now running a simultaneous broadcast on three different continents, with the idea being that people outside of North America will want the same business news as those inside of North America. It’s kind […]

More on Dow Jones shakeup

You know it’s a big deal in business journalism when Newsweek decides to cover the boardroom shakeup at Dow Jones, the parent of The Wall Street Journal. In the Jan. 16 issue, which is available online, writer Jonathan Darman has a couple of interesting points to make about the departure of CEO Peter Kann and […]

Kudos to New York Times' business section

Joseph Epstein, writing in Commentary magazine, assesses the New York Times and how he reads what some people consider to be the best paper in the country. Epstein is not high on many sections of the paper, but he does have this to say about the business section: “And I always check the business section, […]

Roanoke Times changes business columnists

The Roanoke Times, which has a scrappy business section in western Virginia, is changing business columnists. The column is being replaced by John MacIntyre’s “Figuratively Speaking.” […]

The Register-Guard, the daily newspaper in Eugene, Ore., announced in the Sunday paper that it would add section fronts for the business section on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Charlotte Observer, another Knight-Ridder paper, has moved its MoneyWise section, which has run on Mondays, to Sunday, and made some other changes to its business coverage. What was not explained by the newspaper today is whether there will be a business section on Monday, and since I haven’t seen Monday’s paper yet, I don’t […]

Zannino's task: I couldn't have said it better

This blogger neatly sums up the job facing incoming Dow Jones’ CEO Richard Zannino better than anything else I’ve read in the past couple of days: “I hope that in his new job as Dow Jones’s chief executive officer, Richard Zannino takes a hard look at The Wall Street Journal’s editorial future. In my mind, […]

Mining disaster coverage

Nice coverage of the public records regarding all of the safety issues at the West Virginia mine in this morning’s USA Today. Among the items mentioned in the story were these: “• The number of infractions issued to the Sago Mine last year was “higher than would be normally issued to a mine that size,” […]
