Paul Beckett

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Wednesday:

Dear all,

Paul Beckett, Washington Coverage Chief, will be moving on to a new role as Assistant Editor reporting directly to me, working full-time on our efforts to secure Evan’s release.

Paul has worked tirelessly lobbying for government action since we first knew Evan was missing in March. I am very grateful for everything he has achieved so far.

After stints in New York, London, New Delhi and Hong Kong, where he was Asia editor, Paul took over the Washington bureau at the start of the Trump administration and led it with distinction through an extraordinary period that included the pandemic, the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 attacks.

We are advertising for a new coverage chief in D.C. and Paul will continue to lead the bureau until we announce a replacement.
