WSJ taps new editors for business, finance and economics coverage

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Wednesday morning:

Dear All

I’m delighted to announce the new leadership lineup for our Business, Finance & Economics coverage area. Please join me in congratulating these editors on their new roles:

  • Kate Linebaugh is named Corporate Editor. Kate, of course, is the co-host and executive editor and animating spirit of The Journal podcast. Her sphere will include companies that manufacture and sell things, large industries, small businesses and the people who work in them. Kate will manage the teams on aviation, autos, food and manufacturing in Chicago and Detroit; retail and the New York-based corporate team; and the Life & Work bureau.

  • Vanessa Fuhrmans is named Life & Work bureau chief. Vanessa has been Deputy Corporate Bureau Chief and Management Editor since the start of this year and prior to that was a deputy bureau chief working on careers coverage in Life & Work. She will report to Kate.

  • Wilson Rothman is named Deputy Tech & Media Editor, reporting to Sarah Krouse in New York. Wilson has been a linchpin of our personal tech coverage for years and he will bring that expertise to the new broader Tech & Media group.

  • Colin Barr is named breaking-news editor for BFE. Colin is one of our leading minds on markets and finance and for many years has been a deputy finance editor. He’ll work closely with David Crow, Jenna Telesca and the news desk to marshal our forces on breaking stories.

  • Lauren Pollock is named Energy Editor. Lauren is markets editor and has led our coverage of the great bull market of the past several years. She is based in Houston and will run the Houston-based energy team and will take on responsibility for coverage of climate, commodities, energy markets and the energy transition.

Lauren’s move is occasioned by another exciting development: Chris Matthews is going from Houston to Washington to take on the role of Politics Editor, reporting to Damian Paletta. It goes without saying that politics is an exceptionally eventful beat, and I am thrilled to have Chris’s keen story sense and perspective on this essential topic.

Kate, Colin and Lauren report to Marie Beaudette, and join Tammy Audi (Economics), Alex Frangos (Europe), Sarah Krouse (Tech & Media), Marcelo Prince (Enterprise), David Reilly (Commentary & Analysis) and Amol Sharma (Finance) as Marie’s top team of editors.

This is a stellar roster of editors, and they are meant to work flexibly and collaboratively with one another and with the rest of the newsroom to deliver to our readers the absolute best coverage of these core subjects.
