Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray sent out the following on Monday:
Dear All:
We’re happy to share the news that Emily Nelson will become the new editor of Exchange, with additional responsibilities to work broadly with us on audience growth and innovation across the Weekend WSJ. With her talent for building sections and her wide-ranging editing and reporting background, Emily is the perfect choice to build on Emily Gitter and Erik Holm‘s great success turning Exchange into a lively and indispensable weekly package of inviting business narratives, profiles and features. From that important perch, she will also apply her long experience here to helping conceive and execute new features and strategies that we expect will take our weekend journalism to new heights.
Emily joined the Journal as an intern in 1995 and has had a distinguished career as a reporter, editor and leader. Reporting in Pittsburgh, Dallas and New York, she covered retailing, consumer products, and network television and was known for memorable business features that would have been Exchange covers had the section existed then. She went on to be London bureau chief, Personal Journal editor, and most recently U.S. coverage chief, where our team of talented reporters and editors charted some of the biggest events and most-read coverage of recent years spanning the pandemic response, policing and protests, state political and education scandals, and a booming housing market. A native New Yorker and graduate of Yale University, Emily lives in Manhattan with her husband and son.
We will be searching for a new U.S. coverage chief to succeed Emily and will post that vacancy shortly.
