WSJ taps Kamp as news editor for regional economics

Jon Kamp

Wall Street Journal reporter Jon Kamp has been named news editor for regional economics,.

He has been covering the economy from the Boston bureau.

He has specialized in coverage of the U.S. opioid crisis, including the rapid rise of illicit forms of fentanyl and the impact on overdose death rates. Kamp also covers the Covid-19 pandemic closely with a focus on data.

Kamp is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, once for coverage with his Journal colleague Jennifer Levitz on the cancer-spreading risk of a surgical device known as the power morcellator, and with a team of Journal reporters covering Covid-19’s effect on nursing homes.

He began his career with Dow Jones Newswires in Chicago in early 2000, covering energy, and has spent many years reporting on health issues. Jon graduated from Clark University and has a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
