
Wall Street Journal research editor Jim Oberman has retired.
Oberman was head of the research team at The Journal. His department works with reporters and editors to provide background information on people and companies — public records including story subject names, addresses, ages, assets, criminal records and litigation. He developed this department in 2009.
He joined the Journal after working at Time Inc., where he created research centers for Entertainment Weekly, People and Time Magazine. He has also worked at ABC News and the New York Times.
Oberman also worked for a hedge fund as director of internal research.
Oberman holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a master’s degree from Columbia University.
