WSJ names McGinty its science bureau chief

Jo Craven McGinty

Jo Craven McGinty has been named the science bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal.

She has been senior editor for talent for the past two years.

Earlier in her career, McGinty was a database specialist at the Washington Post, where her work led to the 1999 Pulitzer for Public Service and the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting for a series on the use of deadly force by D.C. police.

McGinty has also worked as an enterprise reporter at Newsday, as a professor of computer-assisted reporting at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, and as adviser to Investigative Reporters and Editors and the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting.

Her first reporting and editing jobs were with the Burlington Times-News, The Durham Sun and the Durham Herald-Sun, all in her native North Carolina.
