Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Friday:

Dear all,

Charles Forelle is named Deputy Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal.

This appointment reflects Charles’s pivotal role throughout the newsroom, aligning with our ongoing digital transformation efforts and our broad strategy for expanding the Journal and Dow Jones.

For the past five years, Charles has served as the Finance Editor. Since joining the Journal in 2002 as an intern, Charles has been a reporter in Boston, Brussels and London and has served as Europe Markets Editor and Europe Finance Editor.

Throughout his more than two decades at the Journal, Charles has consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication, editorial acumen and a deep understanding of the Journal’s core values. His passion for storytelling, commitment to our audience and ability to inspire and motivate others make Charles an ideal fit for this position.
