Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following:
I am delighted to announce that Simon Wells has been appointed Executive Production Editor, reporting to David Crow.
Simon’s appointment will continue our efforts to strengthen the hub in New York.
Simon comes to us from The Times and The Sunday Times in London, where he was the head of news production. He was at The Times for over a decade, working closely on their integration of NewsPress and their transition to digital publishing.
Simon will be responsible for our publishing and platforms operations, working closely with David, Executive News Editor Grainne McCarthy, the audience team and the coverage areas to get news out quickly and create a compelling digital experience. Since photography is so integrated in the build of our stories, Photo Director Lucy Gilmour and the photo team will report to Simon while remaining embedded with coverage areas. On-Platform Editor Cynthia Lin, the platform team and the publishing desk also will report to Simon.
