WSJ hires Modak as travel editor, Off Duty

Sebastian Modak has joined The Wall Street Journal’s lifestyle section Off Duty as a travel editor. He wrote on Twitter:

“Big shoes to fill and much to learn, but I’m so excited to shape stories that help people understand the world and how best to navigate it.”

An award-winning journalist, Modak has freelanced for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and Condé Nast Traveler.

His most recent post was that of editor-at-large of Lonely Planet, from where he was let go.

He traveled to and reported from all of the New York Times 52 Places to Go in 2019, spending a week in each. He worked as an associate digital editor and staff writer, digital for Condé Nast Traveler.

Modak has a B.A. in English and history from the University of Pennsylvania.
