WSJ hires Lu to cover Chinese tech

Shen Lu has joined The Wall Street Journal’s China bureau to cover Chinese tech and more.

She recently was at Protocol, where she was a senior reporter covering the intersection of tech, politics and society. She also wrote the Protocol China newsletter.

She joined Protocol in January 2021 as a founding reporter on Protocol’s China team, reporting on China’s tech industry and policies. She has also contributed to The New York Times, Politico, Columbia Journalism Review, South China Morning Post, CNN, Foreign Policy and more.

She was also a personal finance reporter at Magnify Money in New York.

Lu earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree from Northwestern University.
