WSJ hires George as Detroit bureau chief

The Wall Street Journal has hired Patrick George as its Detroit bureau chief.

He replaces Jamie Butters, who left the news organization last year. George will oversee coverage of the U.S. automotive industry and the manufacturing sector.

George will start next week.

George has been the editor in chief of InsideEVs since September 2023. He also co-founded Route Zero, a weekly email newsletter dedicated to e-mobility trends and innovations.

He was also editor in chief of auto industry site Jalopnik, as well as a staff writer and a managing editor at the site. He spent six years as a reporter at the Austin American-Statesman.

George is a University of Texas graduate.
