The Wall Street Journal has hired Olivia Beavers to cover Congress.
Beavers is a congressional reporter for Politico, focusing on House Republicans and GOP leadership.
She first joined the Congress team on Jan. 3, 2021, as author of the Huddle newsletter. Just three days in, Beavers was the first to author an inside-the-room perspective hours after being trapped in the House chamber during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
Prior to joining Politico, Beavers regularly broke news covering House-led investigations for The Hill, including scoops during the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump where she served as the outlet’s lead impeachment reporter. Beavers also has written extensively about former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe and the parallel congressional Russia investigations.
A Virginia native and a University of Virginia graduate, Beavers got her start in Washington in 2016 as a news associate at CNN, where she ran scripts and survived teleprompting for various shows during the hectic presidential election.
She started at The Hill as a breaking news reporter before covering cybersecurity and then national security
