The Wall Street Journal’s features coverage chief and WSJ. Magazine editor in chief Sarah Ball sent out the following:

Dear all,

On a day with plenty of fashion-news grist to go around:

I’m thrilled to say that after a long and thoughtful recruitment, we have a new Style Columnist starting with us next month.  Chantal Fernandez will join us on September 28th from New York magazine.

Chantal, whose byline many of you know well, is currently a fashion features writer for The Cut, where she’s written about the lifestyles of a new generation of high-rolling luxury clients, the strategy behind Abercrombie’s unlikely comeback, Quince’s unsparing business model, the complicated relationship between the Costume Institute and the Metropolitan Museum, and Ghislaine Maxwell’s prison haircut—among many other topics.

Prior to joining New York, Chantal was a correspondent at The Business of Fashion, a contributor to the FT and others, and the co-author of Selling Sexy, a book about the innovations and transgressions that powered Victoria Secret’s rise (a business book excerpted by WSJ. Magazine). Chantal is a Yale graduate and started her career at Vanity Fair, where our own Tony Rotunno trained her to be one of Graydon Carter’s all-knowing assistants.

Chantal will report to Tony in our Fashion & Lifestyle bureau and will cover the juiciest and most irresistible stories from the realms of fashion and style, spanning women’s and men’s fashion both and the style-setting culture at large.

Please join me in making Chantal feel so welcome within Features and in celebrating another great addition to this, the best team in town.
