WSJ editor Tucker on Gershkovich detention

Evan Gershkovich

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Friday:

Dear all,

Our colleague Evan Gershkovich now has been wrongfully detained by Russia for six months; it remains as much of an outrage today as it has been every moment since his arrest.

We continue to stand with Evan and with his family, who noted in a letter to readers this morning not only how much they miss Evan, but also how much he is missing. We watch in awe as Ella, Mikhail and Danielle repeatedly step into new and unfamiliar arenas, sharing their pain but also their positivity and hope.

It’s been heartening to see how you and the many, many supporters inside and outside of the Journal and Dow Jones continuously show up for Evan. This month we’ve seen recognition in front of world leaders during the United Nations General Assembly, and earlier this week, Evan’s high school in Princeton, New Jersey, as well as Bowdoin College in Maine showed their support. And just last night, the US Senate introduced a bipartisan resolution supporting Evan. Each day presents new ideas and opportunities to highlight his case, and this is the kind of relentlessness and resolve we’ll need to sustain as long as necessary.

I hope you’ll join the social storm today at 10:30 a.m. ET.

We are as ever grateful for your ongoing commitment to stand with Evan. We will not rest until he’s released.

Emma
