Wired hires Lahut as senior reporter

Jake Lahut

Wired executive editor Brian Barrett sent out the following on Monday to the staff:

Hi all,
I’m excited to announce that Jake Lahut will be joining us as a senior writer on the politics desk.
In this role, Jake will be covering the Trump White House, particularly the intersection of two distinct groups working to shape its policies: Silicon Valley billionaires and populist MAGA diehards. He’ll also be taking over the Politics Lab newsletter, refocusing it around scoops and exclusive reporting from inside and around the Trump administration.
Jake should already be a familiar byline to many of you through his impactful freelance contributions to WIRED. Last fall he broke the news of the mistreatment of canvassers by Elon Musk’s America PAC for us, and more recently detailed Stephen and Katie Miller’s role in shepherding Musk through DC. Jake also covered the 2024 presidential campaign and 2022 midterms for the Daily Beast, where he landed a number of impactful scoops.
Jake will be reporting to Tim Marchman on the politics desk. He’s based in New York City, and starts on May 12.
