Wired hires de Souza to lead audience development, content strategy

Hi All –

I’m beyond excited to welcome Veronica de Souza to WIRED as our new Executive Director of Audience Development and Content Strategy. She’ll report to me, and start one week from today, on June 23rd.

Veronica, who is based in New York, has a long, stellar, and unique track record leading both audience development teams and newsrooms. She’s held roles at Gawker Media (where she was the company’s first-ever social editor, and built GMG’s strategy and team from the ground up) as well as The Daily Beast, VICE, and Gothamist. Veronica’s audience development experience spans the full spectrum of digital publishing, including subscription strategy, newsletter development, social strategy, and digital product launches.

She’s also led teams of editors, reporters, and social producers in breaking news, investigations, and culture coverage. While at Gothamist, Veronica was part of a team whose investigation into serial sexual assault at Rikers Island was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting.

In her spare time, Veronica writes a shopping newsletter (commerce, you love to see it!) and contributes a monthly shopping column to Dwell as well as a monthly design advice column to Defector.com. She loves scoops, home renovation videos, and longs for 2009-era Tumblr. Don’t we all, Veronica.
