Whalen promoted to head of programming at NYSE

J.R. Whalen has been promoted to head of programming at the New York Stock Exchange.

He joined the NYSE in May.

In his new role, Whalen oversees the production, writing, and booking for NYSE’s live programming, and is line producer of the daily flagship ‘NYSE Live’ broadcast. He also coaches and develops on-air talent, and works with NYSE events, PR, and social media teams to drive audience growth. Previously, he was a business news producer at Yahoo Finance and was host and producer of The Wall Street Journal’s “Your Money Briefing” personal finance podcast.

Earlier in his career, Whalen held positions at CBS News, CBS Sports, HBO, the Associated Press and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” where he was responsible for assigning dollar values to the questions. He began his career at WVIP-AM/FM/TV in Mount Kisco, New York, as news and sports director.

He is a graduate of Syracuse University.
