Spencer Jakab, global editor in chief of “Heard on the Street” at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following on Monday:
“Delighted” and “thrilled” are seriously overused words these days, especially on LinkedIn, but I am sincerely feeling both today when it comes to announcing the newest member of the team. Jonathan Weil has been writing Heards longer than any of us, penning the column during his first stint at The Wall Street Journal in the late nineties and early aughts. Among his hits at the time was the first article questioning Enron’s accounting back in 2000. Jon has contributed a couple of nice Heards since his return to the paper from the investing world, in addition to–not surprisingly–some jaw-dropping investigative pieces (Steward Health’s executives have not been drinking to Jon’s health). Now he’ll be spending most of his time with us with a foot remaining in investigations. In addition to his law degree and deep knowledge of forensic accounting, Jon replaces me as the team’s authority on college football.
