Washington Post hires FT’s Cocco as data reporter

Federica Cocco

Washington Post data reporting team director Meghan Hoyer and business editor Lori Montgomery sent out the following on Wednesday:

We’re thrilled to welcome Federica Cocco to The Post, where she’ll be a data reporter on the business team.

Federica for the past seven years has been a statistical reporter at the Financial Times in London, covering everything from the loneliness epidemic in the U.S. to which European states were exporting sanctioned goods to Russia. At the FT she wrote and reported stories, helped create data visualizations and interactives, and was a co-host of FT Data Crunch, the paper’s video series to demystify numbers and statistics. She previously covered British politics, policy and data at the Times of London and at the Daily Mirror.

Federica, who hails from Italy, graduated from London Metropolitan University with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and received her master’s in international journalism from City University, London. She also completed a postgraduate short course in financial markets at Birkbeck University in London.

She and her partner will be moving to Washington, D.C., this summer. In the meantime, she’ll be starting work remotely from London.
