We are thrilled to announce that Andrew Ackerman, who has spent more than 13 years covering financial regulation in Washington, will be joining the Economics team to cover the Federal Reserve and financial regulatory policy.
Andrew comes to us from the Wall Street Journal, where he established a reputation for delivering consequential scoops about banks and financial regulation.
Andrew broke the story when Equifax sent wrong credit information to lenders about millions of consumers. More recently, he broke news of regulators’ new probe of the uncomfortably intertwined relationship between big asset managers and U.S. banks.
And during the 2023 banking crisis, he broke the news that JPMorgan Chase was a leading contender to buy the troubled First Republic before it was seized by federal regulators. Earlier this year, he was on a team of reporters that won a SABEW “Best in Business” award for breaking news coverage of the crisis.
Andrew will put his financial regulatory skills to great use for The Post. He will also lead coverage of the Federal Reserve, as it embarks on a new trajectory for the U.S. economy, with the first of several interest rate cuts designed to ward off a recession expected this fall. He will be on the frontlines of this move, which could inject new energy into the housing and financial markets, explaining to readers what it all means for their lives.
