Michael Calderone has been appointed editor of Vanity Fair’s media, business and technology sub-section The Hive.
Recently, he held the post of senior editor of The Hive.
Vanity Fair editor in chief Radhika Jones wrote in an internal memo:
Michael’s extensive journalistic background and rich understanding of the interplay between media and politics has made him an indispensable editor to Bess Levin, Joe Pompeo, and Charlotte Klein, to name just a few, and he was instrumental in shaping The Hive’s sharp-elbowed coverage of the 2020 election. In his new role, Michael will collaborate closely with senior editor Tara Golshan and an as-yet-to-be-named associate editor to ensure that The Hive continues to fulfill its mission of covering the worlds of politics, media, tech, and business with passion, verve, and wit.
He previously covered the intersection of media and politics and wrote the Morning Media newsletter at Politico. He was a social media reporter, covering the U.S. media industry and intersection of press and politics at The Huffington Post.
Previously, he was a senior media reporter at Yahoo, a media reporter at Politico and a real estate reporter and media reporter at the New York Observer.
Calderone has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree from New York University.
