Lachlan Cartwright of Breaker reports that President Donald Trump met Tuesday night with a group that included News Corp. CEO Robert Thomson, Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker and Journal opinion page editor Paul Gigot.
Cartwright reports, “While gatherings between Trump and Murdoch’s top editors and columnists are not uncommon, this meeting had a more defined objective, resembling a ‘kumbaya conclave,’ people familiar with the situation tell Breaker.
“‘The purpose of the meeting was to reset the relationship between the administration and The Wall Street Journal,’ said a person with knowledge of the dinner.
“Trump is pursuing a refiled $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Journal over a 2025 story from investigative reporters, Joe Palazzolo and Khadeeja Safdar, regarding an alleged 2003 birthday letter sent to Jeffrey Epstein.
“Then there are the opinion pages that have incensed several members of Trump’s cabinet, including Bessent (who, as Breaker first reported, is also in a feud with the Financial Times over their coverage), who has grown frustrated about criticism of tariffs and the economy.”
