The Andersen Institute for Finance & Economics, a brand new think tank, has hired former Bloomberg News Federal Reserve reporter Craig Torres as its editorial director.

The institute is independent, meaning it doesn’t have a partisan or ideological lean, or a political cause. It has scholars who are interested in real-world, empirical discussion. It is led by Fabio Natalucci, a former International Monetary Fund deputy director and Federal Reserve senior staff member.

“If I am successful in my role as editorial director, you are going to see the highest quality journalism of ideas across multiple media formats,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

Torres left Bloomberg earlier this month after more than 23 years covering the economy and the central bank. He previously worked more than a decade at The Wall Street Journal in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and New York.

He worked with Bloomberg colleagues on journalism that won the Polk Award for National Reporting and the Sidney Hillman prize. The journalists sued the Fed for transparency on emergency facility rescues and discount window borrowings and pried open bailout secrecy.

Torres is a Harvard University graduate.
