The Information hires Heeter for VC/crypto/finance team

Maria Heeter

Tech news site The Information has hired Maria Heeter to be a reporter on its venture capital, cryptocurrency and finance team.

She will start in May.

She has been a real estate reporting intern at Bloomberg News. She is an economics major at Scripps College and a contributor for The Student Life, the student newspaper of the seven Claremont Colleges, where she formerly served as editor-in-chief.

Previously, she was a reporting intern at The Sacramento Bee covering business, breaking news and coronavirus. She began her career as a freelancer for InDepth New Hampshire, covering state politics and the 2020 presidential campaign.

After attending high school in New Hampshire, Heeter moved to Claremont, California to study economics at Scripps College. She plans to graduate in the spring of 2022.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
