The Information editor in chief Jessica Lessin sent out the following to the staff on Wednesday:

Team,

I’m thrilled that Jason Dean will be joining The Information as our San Francisco bureau chief, helping lead a team of reporters covering some of our biggest tech companies.

Jason joins us from The Washington Post and previously The Wall Street Journal, where he ran global technology coverage for nearly a decade. Earlier in his career, he was a reporter and editor for the Journal in Greater China, and he has led teams responsible for many awards, including Loebs and a Pulitzer.

Jason will help oversee our growing San Francisco newsroom as we expand the team — ensuring we stay ahead of an increasing number of major storylines that evolve by the minute.

We are uniquely fortunate to have a worldclass editing team. Our executive editors Amir and Martin are among our most prolific reporters and writers, as well as leaders in coverage. We have a deep bench of editors with experience in myriad areas, all of which will be crucial in the year ahead.

The technology story is bigger than even I could have imagined. As we take on more franchises—from our newsletters to TITV and beyond—we are excited to have Jason join our growing newsroom in San Francisco on March 30.
