Kevin Roose, tech columnist and host of the “Hard Fork” podcast, is leaving the New York Times in August.
Roose plans to start a new media venture with Casey Newton focused on artificial intelligence.
“I can’t give too many details yet (there are still some domain names we need to grab, and self-indulgent manifestos we need to write) but suffice it to say that our goal is to take the thing that makes Hard Fork work and extend it into new formats and directions,” he wrote on social media. “Casey will keep writing Platformer, and I’ll have my book and other side projects.”
He has covered technology for more than a decade, and has been a columnist at The Times since 2017. Before that, Roose was a columnist at New York magazine and the host and producer of “Real Future,” a documentary TV series about technology and innovation.
He’s written three books, including his latest, “Futureproof,” a survival guide for humans in the age of artificial intelligence.
