Applications are now open for the 2027-28 Tarbell Fellowship.
The Tarbell Fellowship is a program designed to train and fund the next generation of AI reporters. Our goal is to give newsrooms the capacity they need to cover the most consequential technology of our time.
What it offers:
- Three months of intensive AI journalism fundamentals training;
- A weeklong in-person summit, with travel and accommodation provided;
- Nine month placement at a news outlet;
- Access to leading AI researchers and experts;
- $75,000 to $120,000 stipend for early-career journalists; and
- $115,000 to $135,000 stipend for senior fellows. Senior fellowships are awarded to our fellows with the strongest track records of prior achievement and at least 7 years of professional experience.
Previous fellows were placed at newsrooms including Bloomberg, The Guardian, NBC, TIME, and more.
Program runs June 2027 to May 2028
