Faiz Siddiqui

Washington Post business editor Lori Montgomery and business and technology investigations editor Evelyn Larrubia sent out the following on Wednesday:

We’re delighted to announce that Faiz Siddiqui has joined the business investigations team, where he will continue to explore the vast empire of Elon Musk.

Over the past four years, Faiz has distinguished himself as one of the most aggressive and insightful reporters on The Post’s technology team. As a reporter covering the gig economy and autonomous driving in San Francisco, Faiz wrote extensively about Uber, revealing how steep fares induced by pandemic-era driver shortages were not benefiting workers and how the company’s IPO celebrations got out of hand. Faiz also dominated coverage of Musk’s purchase of Twitter, breaking news about Musk’s plans to gut Twitter’s workforce, his immediate firing of top executives and his midnight ultimatum requiring Twitter employees to commit to an “extremely hardcore” culture. Faiz also broke the news that Musk was trying to back out of the deal, a day before Musk announced that publicly. Most recently, his work has revealed deep flaws in Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving software, the toll involved in Musk’s decision to test Autopilot on public roads, and the erosion of Musk’s image as an entrepreneurial genius.

Before joining the tech team, Faiz covered transportation for the Local desk for four years, where he uncovered critical safety issues plaguing the D.C. Metro system, chased down documents that revealed the agency’s inner workings, and covered a gunman’s attempt to investigate the false “Pizzagate” conspiracy in Northwest Washington. He started at The Post as an intern in the class of 2015. In addition to his work for The Post, Faiz expects to publish his first book in 2025, a look at Musk through the lens of his management and business practices, for St. Martin’s Press.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who holds a degree in journalism, Faiz grew up outside Cincinnati.

Please join us in congratulating Faiz on his new role. He begins immediately.
